Introduction To Me
Hello everyone!
My name is Zille Huma and I am a psychology major on premed track. The coolest thing about my major is how much you come to understand people through psychology. Oklahoma actually has a shortage of psychologists and mental health is a real issue in the United States. I feel privileged to have been taught on this subject. This actually relates to one of the coolest classes I took last semester called Abnormal Psychology. I really recommend it! We went over casebooks of real medical diagnosis and mental health diseases. It was truly a fascinating class because we got to see how psychology is applied to the real world. One of my biggest accomplishments last semester was surviving. Studying at home was twice as hard but in the end it was worth it. This year will be my last at OU. My career goals include medicine and innovation. I want to cure people but also innovate new medicine, and newer techniques!
My hobbies include doing henna/mehendi designs on hands and arms. It's like tattooing. I also love to cook on weekends. Finally, I watch Netflix in my spare time which is rare. I loved watching grey's anatomy and have recently started watching Fate! I love eating desi food with a mix of western food. I love biryani! Recently I have taken up cooking lasagna, chicken filled garlic bread, spaghetti and meatball but the curry made of desi spices, etc.
I am also a very spiritual person. I am a muslim. Islam is a big part of who I am and it dictates what I do and stay away from. I wear loose clothing, and I cover from head to toe usually in the form of a long dress but my hands and face show. Nowadays we all wear masks too. Religion helps me destress, for example reading Qur'an really helps me calm down. Another thing that helps me de-stress is exercising. I bought a treadmill over the pandemic to help myself relieve stress and give myself me time.
Thats all for now,
Goodbye!

Hi Zillie! I have never heard of that name before, it's very pretty! I am also a psychology major; I chose psychology because it was something that genuinely interested me the most. I felt like I could utilize the major to elevate my education in different aspects of psychology and apply it to my future endeavors. I also enjoy cooking! It's been something I have recently gotten into and I love it a lot, definitely a form of stress relief for me.
ReplyDeleteHi Zille!
ReplyDeleteI was a psychology, pre-med major for a while and switched to study neurobioscience. I totally understand the appeal of psychology! I am so glad that you have found a good fit there. Mental health is definitely a serious problem in Oklahoma especially, and it is something that has too little resources and a large stigma. I am so glad that you are interested in learning about it and changing that!
Hey Zille, that's great that you found a problem that I didn't even know was a problem in Oklahoma. Mental health is a rising problem with the technology rising and it is great that you want to help people with this problem. I try to watch Netflix all the time too but I'm always too tired by the end of the day. Same with me and cooking.
ReplyDeleteHi Zille!
ReplyDeleteI'm a social work major so in a way we get to see the other side of the lack of mental health care in Oklahoma. It has such a knock on effect on folks from mental health into their physical health, housing and so on. Anyway!
Congratulations on the honor roll scholarship! That is awesome. I am a non-traditional student also commuting to OU and studying at home can definitely present challenges. Best wishes on this spring semester!
-Eli
Hi Zille! I am glad that you are inspired to help create a positive change in the community by entering a field that will have a meaningful impact on society; especially since you mentioned the shortage of Psychologists in Oklahoma. I also love to make desi food, and biryani is AMAZING! I hope you have a good spring semester at OU and good luck on your future endeavors!
ReplyDeleteHey Zille! One of my roommates is a senior pre-med psychology major, so I bet you may have had some classes with him! Congrats on surviving and thriving last semester with your scholarship and great grades! Your cooking style seems really interesting - I know there are several "fusion" restaurants around Norman that combine two different cuisines, and it sounds like you could create a few new recipes for them!
ReplyDeletePsychology and premed sounds like such a good combination, Zille! I have seen more and more attention to mental health in my lifetime (when I was a kid in school I really don't remember people ever talking about it at all!)... but we still have such a long way to go.
ReplyDeleteAnd how cool that you know how to do henna designs! There are some Indian festival and holidays where people will post all kinds of gorgeous mehndi designs at Twitter. Maybe you will use some mehndi designs as illustrations at your blog posts and webpages.
And yay for biryani! I used to live in England, and there were so many Indian and Pakistani restaurants were you could all kinds of great biryani; that was actually my favorite food to eat in England. Just writing about it is making me hungry, ha ha. Now I want biryani for breakfast!!! (I'm writing this in the morning after coffee but no breakfast yet...)
Hi Zille,
ReplyDeleteI think it is really cool that you are a psychology major. I am taking a psychology class right now and it is very interesting to me. I also think it is really cool that you enjoy doing henna. When did you start? Also those meals that you have started making sound delicious. I have never had curry but have always wanted to try it because I feel like I would like it.
Hi Zille! I’m also a pre-med, but my major is Biology, not Psychology. Psychology is really fascinating on how well it allows you to understand other people, and mental health is definitely an important issue in the US. One of my friends took Abnormal Psychology and also really enjoyed it. Medical case studies really let you learn a lot about a disease and its progression, and it bridges the scientific, abstract information with real experiences.
ReplyDeleteHi! Psychology is such an interesting major. That is awesome that you are on track for premed. Psychology is a very interesting subject. I personally loved learning about psychology when I took a class in high school. I never got the chance to take a college psychology course. I've had friends who also took Abnormal Psychology and they loved it!
ReplyDeleteHi Zille!
ReplyDeleteI am also a psychology major! I am not pre-med, but I do plan to attend graduate school and become a licensed clinical counselor. I am currently in abnormal psychology this semester! I agree with you that is a really interesting class. It has definitely been the most practical class that I have taken so far, and I have learned so much. I also exercise to relieve stress, and have found that morning runs and afternoon walks have helped me to stay sane. During this pandemic, I have found a lot of comfort and strength in exercise. Good luck to you after you graduate!
Hi Zille!
ReplyDeleteI am also Pre-Med and find Psychology fascinating. I love the comment you made about mental health because I feel like typically society looks down on mental health issues and therapy. I actually had a family member pass away due to mental health, so I find it a very important issue. I am also a huge fan of Grey's Anatomy and I love what they chose to do with this season with spreading Covid awareness. I hope you are having a great semester so far!
Hey Zillie!
ReplyDeleteI am a senior and majoring in psychology and minoring in sociology. I just love that in psychology we are able to understand people’s minds. It is just so interesting. I really wanted to take abnormal psychology, but I did not have the pre-requirements needed for it. I agree that surviving last semester is a big accomplishment. I have always wanted to learn mehndi. Is Fate! Good because I was thinking of starting it? I love desi food as well. Biryani is a good choice.
Hi Zillie, Your major sounds so cool! I am also a senior at OU so I totally get how hard it is to try and get through your senior capstone and things like that via online learning. I hope everything is going well and you will be able to get your degree and put the year of online school behind you! I think learning to cook is super helpful, I haven't gotten more in depth than pastas but lasagna sounds so good right now haha! I hope you have a great semester!
ReplyDeleteHi Zille!
ReplyDeleteI think it is so cool that you study how the mind works. It is such a wild (and I think currently slightly misunderstood) thing! Every person's mind is so different because no one has the same experiences, which I think makes it pretty difficult to compartmentalize things/workings of the mind. I am not a psychology major so obviously I do not exactly get it, but I do find it so interesting and it is so important! I wish you the best of luck on your last year!!
Hi Zille! First of all I love your name, it's so pretty. I didn't know until reading your post that Oklahoma had a shortage of psychologists. I recently started attending counseling myself, so I know how helpful it can be. My faith is also a big part of who I am, I notice that on days where I read my Bible and pray more, I experience much lower levels of anxiety. It's so good to have a hope in something other than what this world has to offer, and it sounds like you understand that!
ReplyDeleteHello Zille. I think it is cool that you are on track for pre-med with hoping to focus on psychology and mental health as, like you said, this is a big issue. I also think that it would be really cool if you could invent new techniques or medicine that can help with people's mental health. It was great to read your introduction and I wish you luck on your future goals.
ReplyDeleteHi Zille! I think it is very cool you are into Psychology! I took psychology at OU and it was one of my favorite classes I have take. I think it is very cool that you like creating hennas! I got one when I was in Mexico a few years ago and the designs can be very cool! I hope you have had a good experience at OU and you are very successful in your future! Good luck to you!
ReplyDeleteHey Zille! I also find psychology to be extremely interesting - I never did get to take Abnormal Psych, but Cognitive Psych was a lot of fun, even if it isn't my major. I'm always thrilled to see more people involved in mental health since (as you observed) it's such an under-served area. I hope you've had at least some spare time to relax this semester, although I am painfully familiar with how much of a shortage there can be. Good luck with your finals and everything!
