Reading Notes: Two Turtle Jatakas
Two Turtle Jatakas
- Firstly, I liked this story because now we would see a turtle doing something wrong rather than a rabbit.
The Turtle and The King
- The men described the turtle as a demon: afraid of what they were unaware of
- rich, wealthy, powerful group of people
- Old man thought just because he's afraid of the water the turtle couldn't survive in it. This contrasts with the notion of older people being wise
- Turtle is sly, smart, clever
- Lesson: When life is against you don't panic and use your intellect to find a way out of the situation
The Turtle and The Geese
- Geese= symbol of support and advise
- People= They talk no matter what, whether you fly in the air or fall dead to the ground. It is not worth replying to people. They will not be happy at your accomplishments and will still talk about you even when you lay dead
- Stick= symbol of a choice to embrace the advice of others
- Turtle: Hotheaded, replies to everyone, and affected by what people have to say about him. He did not use his wisdom. Opening his mouth was literally going to hurt him. He responded with anger and with quickness. He represents how hastiness can ruins ones success. One can be so close to a goal but to anger and temper loose all that they worked for.
